Luckhnavi Biryani on Jhelum Banks!

Jora, Nasir Relish Cuisine, Vow to Promote Food Tourism

It was confluence of traditional Luckhnavi dishes and mesmerizing Sufiaya music on the banks of river Jhelum here! The occasion was launch of Luckhnow Food Festival at the picturesque Peerzoo Island overlooking the Jhelum. And the guests including two senior ministers couldn’t resist to satiate their taste buds by the mouth- watering Shahi Lucknavi preparations.

Dressed in traditional Luckhnavi attires, the students of Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition ( IHM) Rajbagh served the guests with the Luckhnavi Biryani.
After tasting the cuisine, Minister of State for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora said Government wants to promote food tourism.
“ Besides Wazwaan, we will be offering traditional dishes of various states in the Valley. This will provide a home away from home experience to the tourists,” Jora said while relishing the Biryani.
His deputy, the Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Sogami too seemed to be impressed by the food.
“ The cuisine is excellent. Luckhnavi food resembles with Kashmiri food and I hope people will also like it… Due to its natural ambience Peerzo Island has lot of potential to attract tourists,” Nasir said.
The heart touching compositions of the Qawali maestro late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, sung by a local band, enthralled the guests.
The Director Tourism, Kashmir Farooq Ahmad Shah said more such food festivals will be organized in the Valley. “ Peerzo is one of the best places to enjoy food with families while watching the gushing water of Jhelum,” Shah said while pointing towards the river.
The HOD of the IHM, Malik Altaf announced to host an exclusive food festival for Kashmiri Pandits.
And keeping up with the Luckhnavi tradition, Jora, Nasir were served with pan. Before bidding adieu, the ministers penned down their goody date with the traditional cuisine in the visitors book.
However, some locals said government should promote traditional Kashmir Wazwaan on priority.
“ Wazwaan is the identity of Kashmir. Unfortunately there are a few Government run Wazwaan restaurants. We believe that the tourists would like Wazwaan and other Kashmir dishes while holidaying in the Valley,”
